Lutherans Outdoors was founded in 1968 to provide Christ-centered experience and adventures of renewal and Christian growth.  Through the onsite ministries at Outlaw Ranch, NeSoDak, Atlantic Mountain Ranch, Klein Ranch and Joy Ranch, thousands of children, youth, families, and adults are served each year.  Additional offsite ministries such as day camps and servant camps offer hundreds more a unique opportunity to hear and live out Christ's love.

A year-round staff of approximately fifteen and a summer staff of more than one hundred serve on behalf of the faithful congregations, families, and individual who support this ministry.  People from across the US and even other countries come to share in this ministry.  The large majority of participants, however, are members of Lutheran congregations from South Dakota.

The Heritage Society of Lutherans Outdoors was established in 1987 as a way to encourage and recognize those individuals and families who choose to provide a legacy of ministry beyond their lifetime.  Membership in the Heritage Society is bestowed upon all who include LOSD in their estate plan or through a planned gift.

The gifts received from the planned gifts of the Heritage Society members will be permanently invested and the earnings used to enhance the ministry and programs of LO for generations to come.
